Many of you don’t even remember a time when Windows was only used by one person and wasn’t connected to anything. If you needed to get a copy of a document from one computer to another, you inserted a floppy disk into the drive, copied the file to it, removed the floppy from your system and walked over to the other computer (or Fed-Exed it!) and inserted the disk into their floppy drive and copied the file onto their computer. We even had a name for it – SneakerNet!

Those days are long gone, and we take it for granted that we can send and receive files from other computers. But, there is magic behind you being able to do it, and I’m the magician to help you do it!

Despite what the ads and manufacturers try and tell you, it isn’t always as easy as unpacking a box, plugging in the power and a few cables and your off and ready to go. Often the software that comes with new routers, etc., install huge amounts of programs onto your hard drive, and include things that run every time you boot up your computer that you don’t need, or duplicate functions already built into Windows. They just want to keep their name in front of you, so they put their own programs in there. This can cause frustrating conflicts down the road. Many people end up with a mixture of hard wired networked computers and wireless as well. Then, you need to set up security and make sure that things aren’t being shared on your hard drive that you may not want other people to have access to. You know the pictures I’m talking about!
