New Computer Systems and Servers

Home

While a new computer system isn’t the major investment it used to be, it is still important you get it right.

When you go to a “big box store,” you are faced with a bewildering array of choices. But, they all have a couple of things in common. First, they are built to a generic specification rather than with your needs in mind. Secondly, they’re built to be as inexpensive as possible as the competition is ruthless.

As a result, what you end up buying may or may not be ideally suited for your needs. Most new systems come loaded with many useless programs, toolbars, trial versions, etc., that you don’t need, will never use, and cause the system to run much more slowly out of the box than they should. The programs and anti-virus software preloaded onto the machine aren’t necessarily what is the best available, but based on whomever pays them the most to load it onto their new machines! Most clients end up paying me a goodly amount of money to cleanup their new systems before they can even use them!

Ordering online gives you more customization choices, but you’re still limited to what THEY think you should be allowed to choose, and they’re interested in pushing you to their more expensive models.

If you need a server, things get even more complicated. Many people ask for a server and end up with little more than a regular computer that just doesn’t have anyone using it on a regular basis. I can’t tell you how many times a new client has told me about the server their previous consultant installed, and when I look at it, it turns out to be a Dell desktop with Windows XP that is just in a corner! Servers are much more complex to put together, and they don’t run Windows XP or even Windows 7!

When you have me build you a custom computer, we talk about what your usage of it will be and I will configure it accordingly. If you are just going to use the web and Microsoft Office, you don’t need a 250.00 gamers video card!

I will use the best components for the job, so if you’re expecting me to give you a price that is equivalent to that Dell you saw sitting on the shelf at Costco, you will be disappointed. I tell my clients that I give them a Highest Price Guarantee! But, the system will be worth every penny, and if there is a problem, I’m right there to help you with it.

So, if you’re considering adding or upgrading your existing computers, or need a REAL server, give me a call and set an appointment so we can determine what you need.
