For the majority of the time computers have become more commonplace, the standard way of dealing with them has been to wait until something breaks and then call someone to fix it. We call this Break/Fix.
What would you do if you took your car to a mechanic, and he gave you his business card and told you to give him a call when your car breaks down on the side of the road? You’d find another mechanic! Because, we know that keeping an eye on the car and doing preventative maintenance is better in the long run. Before going to L.A., I took my car to my awesome mechanic, and he found that the front tire on the inside had the cord showing through. I was very happy to be able to replace the tires at a good price at my preferred shop rather than have it blow on the Interstate while going 80mph and possibly causing injury or death.
The same can be done for your computers. I install a small program on your system that monitors various areas and sensors on your computer and alerts me if something goes outside normal parameters. Your operating system generates thousands of messages every day on what is going on inside your computer, but most people don’t realize this, and wouldn’t know how to find that information or translate it if they did. Often, the messages and alerts I get are nothing to worry about, but I look for patterns. If something happens repeatedly, I take a look to ensure it’s benign.
I called one of my clients and told her that the hard drive was showing some serious errors. She didn’t want to replace it right then, but did decide to have me set up the backup system I had been after her to do for months. Two weeks later, she called me and said that her computer wouldn’t boot because it couldn’t find a system drive! She was so happy to have had advance notice so she could make sure her data was all backed up and she lost nothing of value.
Another client told me that they feel so much comfort knowing I’m looking after the computers at their business.
I can give you that same peace of mind!
